Meet Pickles. Wait, brace yourself for overwhelming cuteness. Now click.

She's been given a clean bill of health (they thought she'd be a Tripod Kitty, but she's healed up nicely) and has recently been spayed. She's also good with dogs.

And her name is freakin' PICKLES. How awesome is that?

If you or someone you know is within the vicinity of Kitchener-Waterloo or Hamilton, Ontario, and can take in a cat (and this one looks like she's got attitude to match her sweetness, or is it the other way around?), then make contacts and work Internet Magic and get her home for Christmas!

I have a weakness for ginger-colored tabbies, and this little dude is no exception. If you can't donate money, you can do what I'm doing and repost this wherever you can. (I'm also sharing on Facebook. (And hoping the next time his so-called "owners" are ill, somebody throws them out on their butt. Hateful, but true.)

Happy Edit: I checked his status on the Facebook page, and not only does he have an awesome name (Clark Kent), but he's stabilized and expected to pull through.

A good samaritan found this cat today in a gutter by Clark Park, half dead. He is now at the Cat Doctor with a body temperature of 90 (normal is 102) and blood PCV of 8. The Cat Doctor housecat, Diamond, is currently donating blood to save his life. During the exam, the vet found that this cat has a microchip. When called, his "owners" reported that he was acting sick, so they put him outside. I've included a PayPal button too. ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION. But a wise someone suggested it, so I added it. All donations will go towards her Cat Clinic visit (which will include a spay), with the rest going towards therapy for the other three. (I kid. Maybe.)

You can absolutely boost the signal if you'd like - I made this post public. Share away!

Went to her house to watch the first half of the OU game. While I was there:

She made me feel better.Collapse )

So yeah, I'm better. A decent night's sleep, and I'll be ready to face the world again. Maybe. I hope. At least the weather will be cooler...

I get lots of attention from pets when I go running.

Cats keep one eye on me. (The other one, of course, is closed so they can continue to nap.) There's sometimes a particularly gorgeous, fluffy, white one in the window of a house I pass by who watches me between meticulous cleanings.

Some people have chickens in their backyard. Sometimes they get out and cross the road. Dunno why, or where they're going...

Dogs, on the other hand... from the big woofers to the yip-yaps, I get told. Sometimes I can coo at them - "Who's a good boy, den? Good morning, you good good doggie you!" - and quiet them. But even then, my run is a cacophony of "GTFO".

The other day, I heard a new one.

I look over in a backyard and there it was - a duck, waddling towards the fence, doing his best impression of a dog.

Yes, I got told off by a watch-duck. My neighbors...

Dear Self:

What you have is a bit of fatigue from sticky-hot nights and work. And some post-nasal drip making your throat scratchy (but by no means miserable).

Get off the Google searches and drink some fluids and take some Advil PM tonight, and you'll be fine.

Baron Munchhausen says "stoppit",

Jacky called - he was in town getting a generator put back together (hit by lightning, yikes), and when he was done he'd spare us a trip to Watonga and come get Mickie...

If we got her out of school.

Well, okay, sure. She's kicking butt in middle school, and a three-and-a-half day vacation would be fun.

So. No drive for me while I'm puny.

(Jacky was psyched about Mickie getting her passport. "ALL RIIIIIIGHT! We're headed for Cozumel!" They're thinking either Fall Break or Thanksgiving.)

Run Elbie Run: 2 weeks plus a day and counting!Collapse )

Tried to nap this afternoon, but it didn't work out. As tempted as I am to take my meds now and sleep about fifteen hours... I'll hold out.

Wonder if I can talk Andy into going to get ice cream sundaes...

1. Housework is pretty much caught up, so I can enjoy my Alone Time this coming week.

2. My lessons are all on one day now, and they all pay cash per lesson, so that's $45 every Thursday.

3. I still have tomorrow off.

4. Mickie likes chicken pot pies.

5. Cold front making its way here - by Sunday, highs in the mid eighties. Ahh.

6. College football technically began tonight. The OU season starts Saturday.

7. A bag of strings and various guitar accessories that I thought was stolen? Was accidentally grabbed on Tuesday and returned today. I thanked the young lady for returning it and being so honest. Next time she comes in, I need to reward her somehow. :-)

Tomorrow, I drive to Watonga after school so Mickie can spend the long weekend there. Before then, housecleaning (so I don't have to raise a finger all weekend if I don't wanna).

Also, groceries. Which includes a dessert that my fam damily will eat. (Last time, I brought cupcakes. Turns out Oldest Aunt bought Mom a cake. We ate processed cupcakes for a week.)

I'm going to try a fruit-filled pot pie and go to bed early. I'm fighting off a case of "Dun Wanna" when it comes to tomorrow's run, but I'm looking at two more weeks until the 5K, so my butt is going out there if I'm going to beat last year's personal best.

Look at that face!

Friendly, loving, abandoned kitty needs a home.

Live too far/can't take a cat? Boost the signal until it has a forever home. Something this sweet deserves a permanent set of legs to rub up against.

The last week and a half have been cray-cray, and today was just plain bad. (It involved a theft, and if there's anything I can't stand, it's a thief that takes something not critical to life. Bread yes, beer perhaps, guitar strings no.)

But tonight, June and Jacky called. I'm driving Mickie to their house on Friday, and she won't be back until sometime on Monday.

I'll get that Time To Myself this weekend - most of the day on Sunday while Andy works, then again on Monday when I'm off and Andy isn't.

Think I'll absorb the peace and stillness and silence and tranquility and wisdom and everything else that represents the opposite of how I've been feeling for the past ten days or so...

Or I'll just veg out on M*A*S*H reruns and eat too much and turn into a lump.

And-and, a cold front is supposed to come through this weekend, which will make my runs downright pleasant for at least the first half of next week.

I'll be fine. Just need to put my head down and keep plowing through. And keep an eye on people that may have sticky fingers.

When I run, I often do a "Talk Test". I mutter three syllables out loud, and if I have difficulty getting them out (or have problems breathing after I say them), it's a sure sign I need to gear down a bit.

Usually those three syllables are "I'm okay" or "I can talk". If I meet somebody on my route, the Talk Test is "Good Morning!"

Yesterday, the Talk Test syllables were "Holy shi-".

Because I saw a tarantula. Yes, I'm sure. I got a good look at it before it scuttled into a hole in the sidewalk at the Olde College Campus. It was more afraid of me than I was of it. Still, hell of a shock to see something like that...

Work got weird yesterday.

There was the woman who came in on behalf of her son, whom she called on her cell phone and then handed over to me (and, later, BossMan) to clear up our instrument return/trade-in policy. Always awkward...

And in the afternoon, a couple brought in an ISO (Instrument Shaped Object). It was supposed to be a viola. It was too long to be a violin, but too shallow to be a viola. And it was too TEAL to be an instrument, truth be told. They were looking for validation. I really wanted to tell them to get a hold of the online company/individual who sold it to them (for eighty bucks). I feel for them - they have a small gaggle of kids, I think they said five, and they're trying to get them what they can with what they have. Still. Be better with your money, get the grandparents involved, and you can get an actual instrument.

Finally, I'm trying to wrap everyone up before close, and somebody calls to ask about our keyboards. And he's a rambler. I can understand somebody not knowing that late August/early September is a very busy, not-in-the-mood-to-talk time at a music store. But I'm not sure I would have tolerated him if there was nobody there but us chickens.

Here's hoping it was just a widespread case of The Mondays, and saner heads prevail today.

There is a middling chance I'll finally get some Alone Time on Monday (Labor Day). I have the day off, Mickie may be in Watonga, and once Andy leaves for work it'll be just me and the cats.

I'm craving some solitary hours so much, the base of my spine is tingling right now. That sounds bad, I know. But I want to go down several gears and enjoy my own thoughts. Haven't had that in a while. I'll put away the computer (sorry, Lady Sally, but you could use a break too!), and I might turn off the TV (or put in Harry in Concert), and the rest is up to me.

I'd better clean the house this week so I don't have much to do...
